Simple Comforts: Finding Serenity in Our Room at Hotel Bitoraj
Our room at Hotel Bitoraj offered a simple yet welcoming space that reflected the warm, rustic character of Gorski Kotar. While it wasn’t their celebrated “Aphrodite Room” with its handcrafted furniture and jacuzzi, our room still had a comfortable charm that felt in tune with the natural surroundings. Although the view wasn’t the best this hotel can offer, the room provided a quiet, cozy place to unwind after our day of exploring. The beds, while not extraordinary, were comfortable enough for a good night’s sleep, and the room’s traditional decor added a sense of local character to the stay.
The host’s attention to small details was a plus, but at the same time, it left me confused. We found Raffaello on our pillows, which was charming. But the position of the TV practically made it unusable so we watched Netflix on our iPad. It’s a small detail, and obviously we didn’t come here to watch the TV, but I felt they lost some points that they could easily gain.
Unwinding in the Wellness Center
When we were here the first time around, we spent unwinding in Hotel Bitoraj’s wellness center, where I enjoyed both Finnish and Turkish saunas. The view from the wellness center, overlooking the forests of Gorski Kotar, offered a peaceful escape, almost like a painting brought to life. The thoughtful details, from ergonomic lounge chairs to massages administered by expert therapists, made the spa experience as rejuvenating as it was visually calming. I highly recommend trying one of their classic massages for a complete mind-and-body recharge.
Since back then I was unwinding in the wellness, I don’t have any photos from there. But I do have a poor replacement, our room’s bathroom from this time, haha!

One of the highlights of our trip was exploring Lake Bajer, located just a short walk from the hotel. We were very lucky that the weather was great, as Gorski Kotar is known to show its teeth. Snow, hail, fog, rain and low temperatures. As much as it’s bringing hardship to the local inhabitants, there’s nothing like cozying up to the fireplace with a warm beverage on such a day.
But not today, on this fine autumn day.
